1. Mission Statement.Hotels by their very nature are large consumers of resources; they operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week with little “down” time where power consumption can be reduced. We need to be aware of the effect our business has on the environment and continually look for ways where we can reduce or mitigate against the effect of our carbon footprint. All our staff are made aware of our commitment to reducing our power consumption and their responsibilities towards achieving the aims of the business. We will commit business resources to energy management, reduce our energy costs. We will look for ways we can reduces environmental impact, minimise CO2 emissions, consider life-cycle energy costs for all new projects and where possible use energy from renewable sources. 2. Statement of Commitment.1. We are committed to: Purchasing energy at the most cost effective price. We have a broker who helps us achieve this by constantly monitoring market supply. Looking for ways that we can purchase some of our energy from renewable sources Increasing energy efficiency in terms of energy consumed per Degree Day [space heating]Reducing co2 emissions. Investing in new technology where this meets investment criteria • 2.1.1 Power Protectors to reduce input voltage (these initiatives will be instigated on our next refurbishment program) • 2.1.2 Key cards with built in light switches and movement sensors • 2.1.3 Key cards with room heating sensors • 2.1.4 Ambient room temperatures • 2.1.5 Solar panels on the annex roofs to provide all annex hot water • Entering into a climate-change agreement via our trade association – The GTBS. • We are committed to our re-cycling policy and monitoring of waste by category so reducing still further the amount we send to landfill 2. We will address Energy Efficiency in all areas of our business:- 1. Management Issues. Define roles and responsibilities for energy Educate and raise awareness among staff Establish clear reporting procedures Form an Environmental and Social work group [Green Team] 2. Procurement Issues Procure new equipment with low energy ratings Continue with the installation of low energy [28 to 35 volt] LED lighting Consider life-cycle energy costs for new projects and refurbishment. We will consider life-cycle energy costs for existing plant with a view to modify. We shall endeavor to purchase products that have a reduced environmental impact and from suppliers who demonstrate environmental and social responsibility 3. Financial Issues
