Exploring Ceramics

A rare opportunity to tour the museum's historic and studio pottery displays and handle some of the reserve collections with an expert curator.

 

You will also explore some of the techniques involved in making and decorating pots with a professional potter.

 

After the session the potter will fire what you have made for you to take home.

Ian Hook, Curator of the Essex Regiment Museum, will speak about Essex, its preparations for war and how the coming of hostilities affected the people of our County. A “home grown” speaker with 25 years experience of curating in Essex, Ian is keen to explain how national questions, perceived threats and the realities of conflict began to reach all corners of daily life civil, social, political and military.

Chelmsford Museum is proud to present a special story and art session in partnership with the Civic Theatre Chelmsford. Inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll, we will hear a rhyme about a very strange walk on the beach, explore the museum to find some animals before settling down to make our own seaside pictures using a range of art and craft materials.
