British Science Weekend

For British Science Weekend Sandford Mill will be open for all the family to enjoy.

 

Using our hands on equipment visitors will be able to experience sound, forces, electricity and many more as they make their way around the trails across the 32 acre site.

 

How does sound work? What makes the lightbulb light up? Are bigger wheels better than small wheels and what design works best on an aircraft? These are all questions you'll be able to answer at the end of British Science Weekend.

Friday Fives is an hour long pre-school session with a nursery rhyme theme. The session includes a story, craft activity and we explore some of the Museum's objects.

 

Siblings under 18 months of age attend free of charge unless taking part in the craft activity which they would need to be booked on for.

 

Sessions take place at the following times and last around one hour:

Christmas Crafts

The lights are up and the trees are decorated but here at Chelmsford Museum we think they could do with the personal touch, so join us and create your own Christmas decorations.

 

  • Colour and bejewel a 3D present, Snowman or Star tree decoration.
  • Create a personal hand Santa or reindeer tree decoration.
  • Make a 3D Christmas tree ornament to put on your mantel piece.
  • And top your tree with your very own paper plate angel.

Christmas Crafts

Santa is coming in just 2 sleeps, so join us at Chelmsford museum for a chance to prepare for his arrival.

 

  • On a polystyrene plate design your own personalised pictures and messages to Santa, so that on Christmas Eve you have somewhere to put out your thank you mince pie.
  • Rudolph is not forgotten, you can decorate a small bag to take home full of reindeer food.
  • Finally make your own “Santa Stop Here!” door hanger, so Santa knows were to leave your presents.

 

No need to pre-book just turn up on the day.

Make a Smällkarameller (Christmas cracker) - Free activity

To coincide with the display of Swedish Christmas Goats at the museum, children will have the opportunity to make their own Smällkarameller (Christmas cracker) in a special FREE drop-in workshop on Saturday 5 December, 10.30am to 12 noon.

Christmas Crafts

Join us at the museum for our annual Saturday afternoon workshop making three different crafts with a Victorian Christmas theme.  For one price you can try all three crafts and make something special to take home for Christmas.  This event is suitable for families with children aged 4+.  We ask accompanying adults to join in and please note that the children will need some adult assistance with the crafts.

Friday Fives

Pre-school activity for children aged between 18 months and five years old.

 

Each session is an hour long and has nursery rhyme theme, which includes a story, craft activity and a closer look at some of the museum objects which relate to the particular rhyme.

 

The session is £3 per child and places are limited.

 

The session runs at the following times:

 

10.15am

11.30am

1.30pm

 

Rhymes include: Ba Ba Black Sheep, Hey Diddle Diddle, Incy Wincy and Twinkle Twinkle.

 

Pre-booking is required.
