Primary Science Teachers CPD - Forces

Part of a series of CPD events delivered in partnership with Essex Education Services and addressing the parameters of Curriculum 2014; this training event is designed to allow primary science coordinators and classroom teachers opportunities to improve the teaching of forces through an exciting mix of theory and hands-on practical activities.

Marconi Day

Sandford Mill's annual open day event to mark International Marconi Day will take place on Saturday 25th April.

Access to the Engine house and Barn which store our industrial heritage displays, the historic 1922 Marconi broadcasting hut and our Marine Radio cabins dating from 1900's to 1960's.

The art and crafts of World War 1

2015 marks 100 years since the Essex Regiment joined World War One.  The war gave rise to some great artwork, from 'trench art' done by soldiers, to wartime medals.  This workshop gives you the chance to be inspired by our collections to create your own piece of war art.

Chelmsford Museum April fool

It's April fool's day and Chelmsford Museum has put out a few objects and caption cards that are a bit suspicious!  Can you sort out the real artefacts from the imposters and post a picture as evidence on our Facebook page or Twitter feed @ChelmsMuseum?

 

There's a small prize for one person who correctly identifies one of our temporary additions!  No need to book, just turn up and have a go.

Sandford Mill's annual August Sunday afternoons will take place on the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd of August this year.

Victorian themed craft activity

Design and make your own mini Victorian bathing hut.


Bathing huts and machines are the colorful seaside buildings you see close to many British beaches. They were first used to protect the modesty of rich and fashionable bathers and became very popular in the Victorian period.


Have a go at designing and making your own version and then decorating it. You can be as bright and bold as you want to make your hut stand out.

The very popular family fun day is here again with a lively mix of activities. See live snakes, lizards and large spiders and handle them if you dare! Make candles with the Essex beekeepers; try fossil rubbing and other crafts. See the owls and visit the RSPB, and the Essex ferret trust.

Local history for primary teachers

This event offers primary school teachers the opportunity to make more of local history studies in the classroom with background information, ways of using objects in the classroom, making a timeline, and other practical activities. We finish with a walking tour of Chelmsford town centre to see some of the places discussed on the course.
