Mammoths, Mosaics and Metal Detecting
Saturday 23rd July 2016
Join in a day of Archeological activities as part of the National Festival of Archeology this summer.
For younger children we have a Mammoth jigsaw to complete and they can make a model of one; there are also craft activities for all ages including making a roundhouse and roman mosaic.
Heritage Writtle will also show people how to dowse and metal detect.
There will also be an opportunity to get your mystery objects identified.

An event being held at the Museum by the Essex Rock and Mineral Society, there will be a range of hands on actvities for children and families including looking at rocks and sand under microscopes to handing fossils and some exciting chemical experiments.
If you ever wondered how the rocks beneth your feet are formed now is your chance to find out!
This is a FREE event.
Taking place from 10am to 5pm.

This summer the museum will be holding regular Tuesday craft days based on your favorite story book characters.
Each session will run from 10.30am until 2.30pm with a wristband for those taking part costing £3.00 each.
This is a drop in session, no need to book in advance just turn up on the day!

The Tile Printing Family Workshop takes place on Thursday 28th July 2016.
Come along and make your own polystyrene tile with a flower theme, print your pattern and take home.

Our Annual Event 'Make it at the Museum' will take place on Saturday 16th July 2016 at Chelmsford Museum, from 10am until 4pm.
There will be a variety of hands on craft activities taking place using a variety of mediums including pottery, fabric craft and clay.
The activities will take place inside the museum and the area outside, why not bring along a picnic to enjoy in the Award Winning Oaklands Park.
Wristbands are £3 each for those who wish to take park and the cost includes all activities taking place that day.

To celebrate the launch of our new exhibition of fire fighting in Essex since the Victorian times, Chelmsford Museum are hosting a special event. The event will feature three vintage fire appliances and a number of modern vehicles, and visitors can also check out the exhibition, which runs from 9 July to 4 September.

The very popular family fun day is here again with a lively mix of activities.
See and handle, if you dare, live snakes, lizards and large spiders.
Make candles with the Essex beekeepers; try fossil rubbing and other crafts.
We have stands for the RSBP and Ferret Rescue Society; who bring along their ferrets and not forgetting the owls.
