Local history quiz trail

Test your local history knowledge while you explore the museum with your trail sheet. Make sure you leave your completed quiz in the box at reception.

 

50p to enter for a chance to win Chelmsford City themed goodies.

One correct entry will be drawn at random after the closing date.

Sandford Mill Sundays

Sandford Mill's annual August Sunday afternoons will take place on the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd of August this year.

 

As always there will be access to the Engine house and Barn which store our industrial heritage displays, the historic 1922 Marconi broadcasting hut and our Marine Radio cabins dating from 1900's to 1960's.

Victorian themed craft activity

Design and make your own mini Victorian bathing hut.


Bathing huts and machines are the colorful seaside buildings you see close to many British beaches. They were first used to protect the modesty of rich and fashionable bathers and became very popular in the Victorian period.


Have a go at designing and making your own version and then decorating it. You can be as bright and bold as you want to make your hut stand out.

Wildlife Fun Day

The very popular family fun day is here again with a lively mix of activities. See live snakes, lizards and large spiders and handle them if you dare! Make candles with the Essex beekeepers; try fossil rubbing and other crafts. See the owls and visit the RSPB, and the Essex ferret trust.

Night at the Museum Competition

Local history for primary teachers

We finish with a walking tour of Chelmsford town centre to see some of the places discussed on the course.

Porcelain painting

For February half term, we are offering this fabulous workshop painting plates to show Chelmsford's historic landmarks and buildings - or something of your choice!

 

Use our special decorative pens to draw on a souvenir plate then take your masterpiece home to display.  Great fun for all the family and suitable for ages 4+ and the adults can do their own plate too!
